1. Verbs

Verbs are the most complex part of the Murrawarri language. Verbs contain a STEM (the action) and then have a great deal of information built into the suffixes that follow the STEM. To keep the learning simple and incremental, verbs have been divided into four sections of increasing difficulty.

To understand verbs you must know if they are transitive or intransitive.

2. Verb suffix order

The 4 types of suffixes are not randomly attached to the VERB STEM, they have a preferred ORDER. Transitive verbs must have at least one suffix.

Verbs follow the pattern: VERB STEM + (realis) + (voice) + (tense/aspect) + (pronoun)

3. Tense and aspect

Tense tells us about when something happens. Aspect expresses how it happens over time.

Bound pronouns are pronouns attached to the end of the verb.
