Spelling
Murrawarri, like all Aboriginal langauges, is an oral langauge which does not have an alphabet of its own. The Latin (English) alphabet has been used to allow Murrawarri words to be written. The alphabet used here is based on the one developed by linguists for Murrawarri with three key differences:
(1) our spelling uses g instead of k
(2) our spelling uses b instead of p
(3) our spelling uses d instead of t
Each of the substituted letters are made with the same part of the mouth and with the same movement. The difference is whether they are voiced (vocal cords are engaged) or voiceless (vocal cords are not engaged). Linguists recorded many Murrawarri words using the letters "k", "b" and "t", but the sounds in these words are closer to "g", "b" and "d" sounds.
